Travel technology company, Sabre has announced the first scholarship program specifically for survivors of human trafficking. The Passport to Freedom Survivor Scholarship Program is part of Sabre’s initiative to fight human trafficking. Recipients can receive up to $10,000 to use for post-secondary or vocational education. As many as five survivors will receive awards. Sabre is taking online applications from January 5, 2015 to March 11, 2015.

Awards will be distributed based on several considerations. Financial need, field of study, academic potential, and qualities of character will all be factors in Sabre’s decision. Applicants must write a 500 to 1000 word personal statement explaining why their circumstances and educational aspirations.

The Passport to Freedom scholarship has eligibility requirements applicants must meet to receive an award. They must be survivors of human trafficking, have a high school diploma or GED, be a US citizen or have a T-visa, be enrolled part or full-time at an accredited academic institution, and have a grade-point average of 2.75 out of 4.
