Indo Asian News Service in a report titled UAE hails UN special rapporteur’s report on trafficking has stated that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) accepted human trafficking findings by United Nations rapporteur on trafficking, Joy Ngozi Ezeilo. The report showed the progress made by the UAE on the heinous crime.

Shaikha Al Zaabi, first secretary of the UAE Permanent Mission in Geneva acknowledged that the UAE had a constructive dialogue with Ezeilo during her visit between April 11 and 17, 2013 in a speech she delivered before the 23rd session of the Human Rights Council.

Al Zaabi, who said that a fund has been set aside to support victims of human trafficking in the country, stressed the need to continue to combat human trafficking by protecting victims and punishing perpetrators. She called for additional efforts at the national and global levels.

Phillipines president Benigno AquinoIII has signed an anti-human trafficking bill championed by the country’s professional fighter Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao became interested in the issue of human trafficking two years ago when she was contacted by a social worker and activist. She has since been fighting to rescue young girls from the illegal sex trade.
